Giving another life to Gypsum
Gypsum, or hydrous calcium sulfate, is a non-metallic mineral found in natural rock deposits.. There are many reasons why it’s used, but it’s most commonly used as drywall’s main ingredient. Gypsum is 100% recyclable and can be repurposed into new drywall over and over again!
Diverse applications of gypsum
Enhancing compost with recycled gypsum is an all-natural process. By reducing nitrogen losses, gypsum improves compost aeration, increases heat, stimulates microbial growth, and reduces unpleasant odors.
Many products that traditionally use mined gypsum can be successfully substituted with recycled gypsum. In addition to plastics, caulks, adhesives, sealants, and specialty cements, recycled gypsum is also used in a wide range of applications.
As well as soil remediation or stabilization, recycled gypsum can be used in industrial sites such as hard rock mining, coal mining, smelting and refining, and construction.
The absorbent properties of gypsum powder make it the ideal choice for converting semi-solid slurries, which represent most waste. As compared to mined gypsum products, recycled gypsum is more absorbent and offers greater solubility, resulting in faster waste cleanup and remediation.
